If you own a 2005–2015 Toyota Tacoma, upgrading your headlights is a great way to improve the look and functionality of your truck. Whether you want better projector lighting, more customization, or both, there are several options to choose from.

At Desert Wolf Retrofits, we build Tacoma headlights to order. For the 2005–2015 Tacoma, we offer two main types of retrofits: our standard Tacoma retrofit and our Baja Designs DOT LP6 retrofit.

Which Tacoma Headlight Upgrade Is Right for You?

There are four main options depending on your Tacoma's year and what you want from your headlights.

If customization is your priority, the standard retrofit gives you plenty of options. If you want Baja Designs performance built directly into your headlights while also having a setup that stands out from typical Tacoma headlights, the LP6 retrofit offers a unique alternative.

2005–2011 Tacoma Retrofit

The standard retrofit for the 2005–2011 Tacoma gives you the ability to build your headlights around your truck and your style.

The retrofit allows you to choose several different features, so the headlights can be built around the look you want rather than simply replacing the factory lights with an off-the-shelf set.

Housing Colors

Choose from:

  • Chrome

  • Black

  • Gunmetal

  • Color-matched

Color-matched housings can be matched to your Tacoma using the vehicle's paint code.

Projectors

Choose between Light Cannons or Light Cannons with Desert Vision.

Light Cannons produce a bright white beam around 6000K. Desert Vision allows you to switch the projector beam between white and yellow.

Shrouds and Halos

Choose from several shroud styles:

  • Turbine

  • XR-5

  • Panamera

  • Apollo 2.0

  • Apollo 3.0

You can also choose rear-mounted or front-mounted halos, round or hex designs, or no halos.

For additional customization, RGB halos can be controlled from your phone, while switchback halos run white and flash amber with your turn signals.

Demon Eyes

Demon Eyes add a colored glow inside the projector when the main headlights are off.

Options include:

  • RGB

  • Amber

  • White

  • Red

  • Blue

  • Green

  • No Demon Eyes

Demon Eyes are primarily an accent feature for parked trucks, shows, and displaying your build. When the headlights are on, the main projector output takes over.

Projector Lens Etching

Add a personal touch with laser-etched projector lenses. Choose from topography or honeycomb patterns or provide custom artwork such as a logo or graphic.

Headlight PPF

Headlights are exposed to rocks, road debris, bugs, sand, and UV exposure. Professional Paint Protection Film helps protect the lenses from rock chips, scratches, pitting, and UV damage.

PPF is professionally installed before your headlights are shipped.

2012–2015 Tacoma Retrofit

The 2012–2015 Tacoma retrofit offers many of the same customization options as the 2005–2011 version, including housing colors, projectors, shrouds, halos, Demon Eyes, lens etching, and PPF.

The main addition is the option to add a 1-inch auxiliary pod.

1-Inch Auxiliary Pods

Choose from:

  • No auxiliary pods

  • Baja Designs S1 with an amber lens

  • Baja Designs S1 with a white lens

The pods add another lighting option in the DRL/Turn Signal area while giving the headlight assembly a more aggressive appearance.

Baja Designs DOT LP6 Retrofit

For Tacoma owners who want Baja Designs performance built directly into their headlights, Desert Wolf also offers a Baja Designs DOT LP6 retrofit for both generations of Tacoma.

The LP6 is integrated directly into the Tacoma's factory headlight housing, giving you the performance of a Baja Designs LP6 while creating a headlight setup that is different from what you typically see on a Tacoma.

Instead of adding an LP6 as a separate light, this retrofit makes it part of the headlight assembly while maintaining factory-style fitment and functionality.

2005–2011 Baja Designs DOT LP6 Retrofit

The 2005–2011 LP6 retrofit is designed specifically for the earlier Tacoma generation.

You can choose between an amber or white LP6 daytime running light, along with several housing and marker customization options.

Marker options include:

  • Keep stock

  • Topographic etching

  • Honeycomb etching

  • Black camo wrap

  • Carbon fiber camo wrap

  • Chrome wrap

Professional PPF is also available.

The factory headlight adjusters are retained, allowing you to aim the LP6 lights using the original adjustment system.

The retrofit also includes the DRL wiring harness, fuse taps, and a plug-and-play headlight harness that integrates with the truck's factory headlight controls.

2012–2015 Baja Designs DOT LP6 Retrofit

The 2012–2015 Tacoma has its own Baja Designs DOT LP6 retrofit designed specifically for this generation.

It includes:

  • Amber or white LP6 DRL

  • Multiple housing colors

  • Marker customization

  • Headlight PPF

The LP6 is professionally integrated into the factory housing and retains the factory headlight adjusters, giving you Baja Designs performance in a unique headlight assembly while maintaining a clean, factory-style appearance.

Standard Retrofit vs. Baja Designs DOT LP6

The main difference between the two options is what you want from your headlights.

The standard retrofit is a great choice if you want to customize the appearance of your headlights while upgrading the projector lighting. You have options for the housing, projector, shroud, halos, Demon Eyes, and lens etching.

The Baja Designs DOT LP6 retrofit is designed for Tacoma owners who want Baja Designs performance built directly into the headlight assembly. It also gives your truck a distinctive look that you won't see on every Tacoma.

Both options offer factory-style fitment and plug-and-play functionality. The right choice depends on how you use your truck and what you want from your headlights.

Which Tacoma Headlight Upgrade Should You Choose?

If customization is your main priority, the standard retrofit gives you plenty of ways to build a headlight that fits your truck.

If you have a 2012–2015 Tacoma and want an additional lighting option, you can also add the Baja Designs S1 auxiliary pods.

If you want Baja Designs performance integrated directly into your headlights and like the idea of having a unique setup, the Baja Designs DOT LP6 retrofit is an option worth considering.

There isn't one best Tacoma headlight upgrade for everyone. The right choice depends on your Tacoma generation and whether you prioritize customization, Baja Designs performance, a unique look, or a combination of these.
